Meetings

Didn't get as much done at work as I wanted to, but there were several meetings, and while it was okay, I'm frustrated that my task didn't get finished because I spend the time on attending those.. The last thing I remember is doing a line of code that basically broke everything, so it will be interesting to see how long it takes to pick that up on Monday.. I actually consider if I should go there and fix it tomorrow in good time and peace.

Sauna marathon

It was nice, had 7, hmm, spent some time looking for the word, but couldn't find it in English, the word is "sauna gus" in Danish, and "aufguss" in German.. It's where water (in our case, mixed with essential oils) are poured onto the stones, raising the temperature and releasing the scent into the air. It was very nice, but not as hot as it usually is, which was a bit disappointing, but still nice enough, and we went to a Chinese all-you-can-eat buffet after, which was awesome as always, we are there so often that they know us and give us a nice rebate :)

Cola

Today I stopped taking care of the Cola-sale at the office, and instead tried to introduce the "Anarchist Soda Storage", (which I now regret I didn't name vault) and it was more well received than I'd feared. The basic idea is to be a proper human being. That's really how it works. Take a soda if you're thirsty. Put a case back some day if feel you've had your fair share. It'll be my little social experiment.

Graphics

While driving home today, I thought about why I like the graphics in those old games more than in new games. I want to write some of it off to nostalgia, but I cannot account for all of it, especially not for the games that I didn't play or dislike when I was a kid. I have another theory, even if it is tied to how I though about games and computers when I was younger. See, I had the theory when I didn't know any better, that the game-world was "real" inside the machine (in some way I guess it is), and that the reason it looked different was because of how the computer was able to represent it on the screen. Basically, it was easy to me to imagine that the actual world of the game had a much higher fidelity than what I could see on the screen, and the low-res graphics actually aided this, because I basically couldn't see what I couldn't see! Now, that sounds weird, but think about it like this; In new games, with high fidelty, where there are enough pixels and colors to represent a photography or movie accurately. Well, if you apply this resolution and color-depth to a computer game, suddenly it becomes very clear what is missing. The details that are not there are missing because they are not in the game, not because the fidelity is too low to represent them. Somehow it makes those old games seem a lot more crisp to me, it makes it feel like the real game world is really hiding in there behind those big blocky pixels! :) Good night!
